It’s finally time to jump in to this year’s Undercover Reading Challenge! Feel free to share far and wide. I’ll come back soon with details about how we will discuss and vote for our favorites but know that the process will probably start at the end of March/beginning of April.

For January and our “book with more than 500 pages,” I’ve chosen a Goodreads Choice Award nominee from 2018 – The Witch Elm by Tana French. I’ve heard good things over the years but never read it and if Stephen King calls it “extraordinary,” that’s good enough for me!

If you have feedback or suggestions about titles for upcoming months, let me know!

Cheers to some fine reading in 2026!

I’m the Undercover Librarian.

In this space, we read books, we comment on librarianship and books, and sometimes we comment on the state of things in general.

Opinions and editorial comments are mine alone and do not reflect the quality of my upbringing (happy, Mom?) or my place of employment.
