So yes – it’s a book that is entirely context and background and doesn’t move the over all plot of the series forward…

But it still lands! I felt a little starved for more dragon character development and this book very much delivers in that respect.

The descriptions of chains of events on the different threshing days and some of the early interactions between dragons and their riders connect dots that feel good.

I also appreciated that Yarros plainly states when some chapters contain spoilers for the other books.

Would definitely recommend! Very much worth the read if you enjoy The Empyrean series!
